Vancouver Convention Center awesome roof

17 August 2009

Very quick post to highlight my pure and profond admiration for the architects and all people involve in the contruction of the new convention center of Vancouver.

Not only it is one of the most beautiful human construction I've seen, but it is also a wonderful example of how we can develop our cities in a very ecological way (and when I say 'our', I mean Us, people of the Earth, not only French or Canadian).

Here is for example a presentation of the roof, entirely covered with grass, creating a 6 acres park downtown.

The roof of the Vancouver BC Convention Centre is covered with over 2.5 hectares (6 acres) of native grassland. Usually closed to the public, we were able to get a tour and interview with the landscape architect of the project, Bruce Hemstock.

This is part 1 of the "Growing Cities" documentary series shot while traveling in the USA and Canada - June 2009. 2 person crew. Canon 5DmkII and Zoom H4n. Music is "Andvari" by Sigur Rós
